Visionary Leadership in Humanitarian Action

Dr. Farukh is the Founder and CEO of Rapid Response, India’s leading humanitarian organization committed to delivering timely and effective disaster relief. Dr. Farukh’s journey began in the aftermath of the catastrophic 2013 Uttarakhand Floods, where he witnessed the critical gaps in India’s disaster management systems - a lack of expertise, resources, and proper coordination. What began as a one-week volunteer visit turned into months on the ground, ultimately shaping his vision to establish India’s first NGO dedicated exclusively to disaster relief and emergency response.

Since then, Rapid Response has evolved from a small grassroots initiative into a nationally respected humanitarian organization known for its agility, community-centric approach, and commitment to transparency. Under his leadership, the organization has supported more than one million disaster-affected people across 15 states, responding to 33 major emergencies over the last 12 years.

Beyond immediate relief, Dr. Farukh has championed long-term resilience and systemic change through pioneering initiatives such as: Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) and School Safety Programs. These programs have strengthened local capacities, reduced vulnerabilities, and empowered communities with practical tools for resilience.
